Airport sponsors face a major challenge in providing for orderly, timely, and
coordinated airport development to capitalize on near-term opportunities without
compromising the long-term capability to serve the aviation needs of the region
served by the airport. An airport master plan provides the necessary vision and
direction to accommodate growth in aviation activity over, typically, a 20-year
period, and serves as a guide for logical, balanced, and feasible airport development,
consistent with the goals of the airport sponsor and the needs of the local communities
and airport tenants. In addition to being a roadmap for airport development, a master
plan often serves as the foundation for project funding agreements between an airport
sponsor and the FAA, tenant airlines, and other key stakeholders.
Over the last 50 years, Leigh Fisher Associates has become the industry leader in
airport master planning by developing a highly effective approach that results in
creative, technically sound development concepts, consensus among key stakeholders,
and a financially and environmentally feasible development program. Our strength
in master planning is derived from the unequaled depth and experience of our staff,
which allows us to apply specialists in each relevant discipline to create a coordinated
and implementable airport development program.
Recently, LFA successfully completed some of the most challenging master planning assignments
in the United States, including those for Lambert-St. Louis, Dallas/Fort Worth, and the new
Austin-Bergstrom international airports.
